NorCalcyber Mayors cup 2023 participants - Congratulations to all of you and your coaches!

The 5th annual NorCalCyber Mayors Cup was held on Saturday, April 22, 2023. This year, NorCal had 205 students register, and seven new programs, meaning none of those students had participated in any cyber competition before. In a joint awards ceremony between NorCal and California's Inland Empire/Desert region, students from middle school, college, and high school joined in the festivities. Mayors from the high schools' winning communities are anxiously setting dates to recognize the students and excited to bring the Mayors Cup to their offices!

An Historical Perspective of The NorCalcyber Mayors Cup

The Mayors Cup

The NorCalCyber Mayors Cup brings awareness to cybersecurity careers and provides students with an opportunity to engage in team-based learning. The Sacramento County Office of Education has supported students and their coaches to participate in the NorCalCyber Mayors Cup since 2018.

In 2018, the California State Assembly issued a challenge: Fill the 40,000 open cybersecurity jobs throughout the state. Now, in 2023 industry cites 80,000 open jobs. Our students are our future and we must help train them so they are prepared to bring their skills to the workforce.

The NorCalCyber Mayors Cup is designed to use cyber competitions to spread awareness about the cybersecurity field and the opportunities that exist within it. Students, parents, teachers, government officials, business leaders, and other stakeholders come together to participate and build California’s future cyber workforce.
